Lamps are a light source similar to Glowstone and Redstone Lamps, but a variety of 16 colours can be crafted. Lamps are whole blocks that emit light when powered or not in the case of inverting lamps. Like all non-sunlight light sources, Lamps will melt nearby snow and ice.
Lamps can be crafted with any colour of Illumar to create the corresponding lamp colour, though light emitted will always be white (due to how minecraft lighting works).

Types of Lamps
Standard
Operate just like Redstone Lamps, emit full light (15) when powered by redstone and no light (0) otherwise.
Inverted Lamps
The opposite to standard lamps, emit full light when not powered and no light when a redstone signal is present.
Uses
Lamps can be used for whatever application requires a fancy coloured light block. Lamps are a useful way to create coloured warning lights, house lighting or however you want. If you're looking for a more concealed light source, perhaps make yourself a caged lamp or the atmospheric Lantern.
